New England thrives during the colder months, and no more is that true than in Brookline and the Greater Boston area. If you are a tourist simply visiting the Boston area and staying in Brookline, or you have recently moved to Brookline, it can always be helpful to know about some of the fun things to do with friends and family while you are here.
Catch A Movie At Coolidge Corner Theatre
Coolidge Corner Theatre is a nonprofit, independent cinema located in Brookline. It is known for its unique mix of movies, from classics to independent films. Moreover, it often has events throughout the year. If you or someone you know is a movie buff, it has seminars and classes, including one-night seminars where guest filmmakers, professors, or critics lead deep dives into cult favorites or popular films.
Take A Walk Around Halls Pond Sanctuary
Halls Pond Sanctuary is a nature preserve in the heart of Brookline. It and the adjacent Amory Woods are the only nature preserves in Brookline and are a beautiful place for a winter walk amidst the urban environments of Greater Boston.
Visit The MFA or Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
Brookline is close to two of Greater Boston’s most famous museums. Since the colder temperatures might make you want to head indoors, we highly recommend both museums. The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is a truly unique museum experience. Unlike other museums you may have been to in the past, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum was once a privately owner art gallery. Isabella Stewart Gardner and her husband had created a unique and small property to host their expansive art collection. Isabella Stewart Garnder then requested that the property be turned into a museum. If you are looking for a more traditional art museum experience, the Museum of Fine Art is an enormous museum that features art from many different cultures and periods.
Take a Tour of Fenway Park
During the winter months, you won’t be able to catch a ballgame at Fenway Park. However, we highly recommend taking a guided tour if you know someone who loves baseball and baseball history. Built in 1912, Fenway Park is the oldest baseball park in the country (followed closely by Wrigley Field). The Red Sox have a rich and storied history, and Fenway sits on the edge of Boston and Brookline.
